About Us
Who We Are
Established in 1968, Monterey Credit Union proudly serves over 21,000 members across the Central Coast. We believe that our job as a financial institution is to help you live a life that is full of the things that bring you joy. We are steadfastly committed to the people and communities that make us who we are, and we do everything we can to ensure that both will prosper for generations to come. Throughout our history, we have always maintained our local roots and our unwavering dedication to those we serve, but we have also embraced technological advancements and adapted to our members' evolving financial needs.
Membership is available to anyone who lives or works in the counties of Monterey, San Benito, Santa Cruz, Santa Clara, or San Luis Obispo. Members who move out of these areas do not lose their Credit Union standing.
About Credit Unions
One of the key distinctions between banks and credit unions is ownership. Credit unions are owned by their members, not shareholders. This means that any profits we generate are reinvested back into the credit union to benefit you, the members. This allows us to offer competitive rates on loans and savings, introduce new and improved services, and maintain financial stability. Credit unions are governed by a Board of Directors elected by the members, ensuring a focus on serving your needs.
